Update!

Monday, August 30, 2010

Hello everyone!

Sorry I haven't been posting for a couple of days now. I just started school, so everything should go back to normal eventually.

I've just posted my older projects to this blog that I have pictures of, and I'm hoping to start up on some new projects. I'm currently waiting for pattern books in the mail which should come sometime this week (I hope!).

I'll also try to put together some reviews to post.

By the way, if you happen to be on Facebook, consider joining our fan page. I update the page when I post something new here. The little Like button is along the side of the page.

So, that's pretty much it for updates.

Graduation Dress

So, for my graduation, my school said that all the girls had to wear a lightly colored dress and white shoes. Looking in the stores, I realized that a lot of the dresses met the standard and appealed to me. So, I decided to make my own dress. It is made out of a bridal fabric and has a blue ribbon across the waist. It is made with Butterick 5322.

Here are the Front and Back Views. There is featherweight boning in the bodice so that it will stay up. The dress is secured in the back with a zipper.

Here are pictures of the back skirt and bow. The bow was not the way that I wore it to graduation because I was the only one who knew how to tie it, so the pictures here are just for show. The bow pictured is actually made up of two pieces of ribbon: the one attached to the dress and an extra one.

So that's my graduation dress.

Fashion winter 2011

Stuart Vevers has unearthed a Hollywood heroine in Loewe’s Madrid archive. “We recently found a visitor’s book signed by Ava Gardner,” he said backstage. “That’s been a bit special.” It explained why Old Blue Eyes was on the soundtrack of the Fall Winter 2010 2011presentation.

Gardner fled to live in Madrid when her marriage to Frank Sinatra was on the rocks, in 1955, after filming The Barefoot Contessa in Europe. While amusing herself with, among other things, a virile bullfighter, she also found time to pick up the occasional handmade leather item in Loewe’s Gran Via store.

Words used by the brand’s creative director of Bottega Veneta Tomas Maier, to describe his new resort collection for spring summer 2011 seem very appropriate: “architectural”, “graphic” and “simple lines.”

This brand, like Fendi, Hermes and Louis Vuitton, are better known for their handbags and accessories but not for clothing, so it’s no easy feat to make a statement with their fashion collections. However, this particular collection, stands out. The german designer Maier, has been able to raise Bottega Veneta fashion to a new level.

Graphic touches were particularly noticeable. Prom dresses, the most beautiful pieces of the collection. T-shirts inspired by wetsuits are also highlighted.

John Galliano presented in Shanghai his new resort collection for Spring / Summer 2011. Many expected that this collection was inspired by Asia, but it was not, was a entirely parisien collection.

The catwalk showed a lot of pieces inspired by the French New Wave in the ’60s, with floral prints, ruffles, stripes and pastel colours. Mint green, peaches and roses, the colour palette was very feminine and naive.

“I didn’t really want to do ‘China’ at all. Not only because I have done that, but because I didn’t think it was appropriate,” the designer said. “I just thought it would be really fierce, really cool, to present le savoir faire français.” And that he did, with a savvy blend of ready-to-wear and couture. “I was just trying to recapture that excitement that was happening at that time in Paris, which is very similar to what is happening in Shanghai today,” he said.
